Travelling from Edinburgh Airport

By Bus

The Airlink 100 express bus service runs from the airport to Waverley Bridge (near Princess Street and the main rail and bus stations).

Passengers can buy tickets at the airport information desk, at the bus stop, from the driver or in advance online.

The Airlink 100 departs every 10 minutes, with the journey taking 25 minutes. The fare is £3.50 single and £6 for a return with reductions for children. This bus leaves from Stand 19 on the Waverley Bridge.

There is also the Edinburgh Shuttle service which operates a fleet of 7-seater mini buses running regular services between the airport and the city centre zone. Telephone 0845 500 5000 for more details.

Lothian Buses (LRT) also run services between Edinburgh and the airport including the No.35 bus and the N.22 night bus. 

The 35 service runs to the city centre and on to Ocean Terminal, with stops including RBS World Headquarters, the Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. These buses run every 15 minutes during weekdays and every 30 minutes evenings and weekends. The journey time is around 1 hour and fares are currently £1.20 for adults and 70p for children. The service departs from Stand 21.

The Night bus service (N22) runs from Edinburgh Airport via South Gyle to the city centre and on to Ocean Terminal in Leith between 00:47 and 04:13, 7 nights per week. These buses run every half an hour and the journey takes about 30 minutes from the Waverley Steps to the airport. The fare is a flat £3 and the bus leaves from Stand 19.

By Car

Edinburgh Airport is located around 8 miles west of the city centre. The entrance is reached from the A8 Glasgow Road, and is close to the M8 and M9 motorways.

The A8 airport junction is between the Gogar and Newbridge roundabouts. Travellers approaching from Edinburgh can join the A8 from the city bypass and head towards Glasgow. Travellers coming from the north and west should join the A8 at the Newbridge roundabout and head towards Edinburgh, then follow signs for the airport.

Taxis

There are seperate taxi ranks for private airport taxis and for city black cabs outside the east (UK Arrivals) end of the terminal building. A third taxi rank is available for advance-booked taxis on the ground floor of the multi-storery car park, directly opposite the terminal. A journey to the city centre should take around 30 minutes. Many taxis are also wheelchair accessible.

By Train

Edinburgh's major rail stations are Waverley and Haymarket. and these are located in the city centre - Waverley in the East and Haymarket in the West End.

Rail passengers can easily get between airport and train station by taxi or by bus. The Airlink 100 service calls at Waverley and Haymarket stations, while the N22 night bus also runs between Waverley station and Edinburgh Airport.

Alternatively, the AirDirect 747 bus links the airport with Inverkeithing train station in Fife. Combined train and bus tickets are available to or from any rail station in Scotland.
